  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Barbara Gonzalez -- A fun and beautiful way to learn about our galaxy! : What a beautiful, fun, informative book! The catchy poems give fun facts about the planets that are further explained. Loved the explanations that relate the information to our everyday life, to ancient gods, and more. So interesting, I learned a lot like- Venus is toxic and 880 degrees; that the viscosity of the earth’s mantle can be likened to the texture of honey only slower, the size of Saturn’s rings and what they are made of. By using an interdisciplinary approach, it makes it easier to remember the facts. Wish I’d had this when I was 10 years old, I’d have had a lifetime of knowing about our galaxy. But, I’ll just be happy to learn it now and understand why the photos I shoot of the Milky Way look the way they do! ( Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Shari -- For all ages - knowledge, wisdom, and poetic humor rhyme : Poems of the Planets – ( Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Tom P. -- The pages of this book burst with the excitement of learning : From the playful, clever planetary poems, to the rich explanations of science and history, to the exquisite color photos and compelling diagrams, this book is brilliantly designed to capture attention and stimulate curiosity. Those who want to dive deeply into the mysteries of our solar system will find a lively presentation of fascinating scientific facts. But the book offers so much more. It includes wonderful historical references, including descriptions of the Roman gods for whom the planets are named (with photos of ancient sculptures of those gods), Galileo’s discovery in 1610 of Jupiter’s moons (supporting the theory of Copernicus that the earth revolves around the sun), the lunar landing in 1969, and the recent expeditions of the Mars rovers. It is also full of delightful detours such as the brief descriptions of the characters in Shakespeare’s plays for whom the moons of Uranus are named (my favorite is the description of Miranda from The Tempest). This book is a special gift to children, parents and teachers. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Charles G. Bragg Jr. -- Educational AND entertaining : Even though I thought I knew a lot about our solar system, I found an incredible amount of new information in this book. The text is extensive and clearly written. The illustrations are very fine as well. As textbook it beats anything I had growing up. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from College Counselor -- Original and engaging approach to exploring our solar system : This is a book that parents and children can enjoy together - and both will learn new things about our neighbors in the solar system. The poems evoke wonder while maintaining scientific rigor, and the illustrations are beautiful. When children’s curiosity is stimulated and they inevitably ask “why?” to many things, there are links to websites that provide more information. The book creates a desire to explore the heavens in young and not-so-young alike! ( Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from DSS -- An entertaining way to learn about our Solar System. : This book is great reading for both young and old. It explores the vastness of our solar system beginning with a clever poem as an introduction to the 20 planets, moons, asteroids, etc. that are detailed in the book. References to Earth emphasize stark the difference between our planet and the rest of the solar system. The photographs and illustrations are stunning, and I enjoyed looking up and viewing the videos referenced in the book. After reading the kindle version, I ordered the paperback for my grandchildren, and I am ordering another copy for my daughter’s 5th grade classroom library.
